The NC SFI SIC supports the Sustainble Forestry Teachers Experience (SFTE) through direct financial contributions and several of the member companies participate by hosting the group of teachers at their facility or forest.
The SFTE is a four-day residential program that focuses on the social, economic, and environmental aspects of forestry. Each year, an academy is held in New Bern, NC, Asheville, NC and Southern Pines, NC. During the four days, teachers participate in lectures, tours and hikes in forests under various types of ownership and management plans. Participants should expect a fast-paced week, with extended moderate walking and some stair climbing and walking on raised catwalks in mills and production facilities. We also strive to provide great food, fun and engaging learning environment. In addition, training in the Project Learning Tree curriculum and other extensive materials and discussions prepare participants to transfer what they have learned back to the classroom. CEU renewal credits (20-25 contact hours) will be rewarded.
