Who We Are...

landowner The North Carolina State Implementation Committee (NC SIC) is a coalition of individuals representing landowners, industry representatives, consulting foresters, universities, conservation organizations and government agencies.

The goal of the committee is to ensure that forestland in North Carolina is managed wisely and that North Carolina's forests will be able to supply the needs of future generations.

Two main elements of the NC SIC's efforts are the committee involvement with the NCFA's ProLogger Program, particularly in the field of education, and the SFI Inconsistent Practices toll free phone number, which is (877) 271-6531.

Through input of the NC SIC, the NCFA's successful logger education program, ProLogger, added a continuing education element in 2002.  The program requires that all ProLoggers meet annual education requirements to maintain their status as ProLoggers.  Classes target any ongoing issues identified through field reports by the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources.  To learn more about the ProLogger program, click here.

The Inconsistent Practices number is a resource to report any forest management activity that is not consistent with the goals of the SFI program.  The goals and background information on the SFI program can be found at www.sfiprogram.org.

All phone calls are investigated by the program's third-party monitor.  All reports are investigated in the strictest confidence.

This program documents any inconsistent practices, if any, that may take place in North Carolina in a given year.  The monitor is not an enforcement agency nor does the monitor have the authority to mediate a complaint.

The current chair of the NCSIC is Matt Thuman, who is with the Campbell Group. He can be reached at (910) 815-4320.
